Maple Valley’s Zombie Dash Honored with Three Awards from WFEA

The City of Maple Valley’s Zombie Dash has been honored with three awards from the Washington Festivals and Events Association (WFEA), which recognizes outstanding creative, promotional, and community engagement efforts for events across Washington. These awards highlight the Zombie Dash’s unique design, memorable promotions, and exceptional volunteer program.

The Zombie Dash received the Best Promotional Item award for its custom event medal, which was crafted with glow-in-the-dark ink and featured eerie zombie fingers reaching around the medal. Participants wore distinct ribbons depending on their fate in the race, with unique colors for those who “survived” and those who were “infected,” adding to the event's immersive experience.

The City of Maple Valley was also awarded Best Outdoor Advertisement for the striking 4’x30’ high-definition event banner, made from durable 15oz matte vinyl with a 1000x1000 denier. This eye-catching banner invited participants and showcased the spirit of the Zombie Dash with bold, captivating imagery.

Lastly, WFEA honored the Zombie Dash with the award for Volunteer Program Excellence. Both in 2023 and 2024, Zombie Dash showcased an outstanding volunteer team, with community members dressed as zombies who brought the event to life. Volunteers not only enhanced the experience for participants but also contributed to the event’s immersive, high-energy atmosphere. Their dedication and enthusiasm elevated the Zombie Dash from a typical fun run to a full-scale adventure, making it an unforgettable experience.

“This event was only possible because of the commitment of our volunteers, support by our sponsors, and the creativity of our staff,” said Dave Johnson, Parks and Recreation Director. “We’re thrilled to receive these honors from WFEA and look forward to making next year’s Zombie Dash even better.”
