100 Acre Wood Ribbon Cutting
|
The City of Bellingham hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, February 21 celebrating the completion of the Hundred Acre Wood Outdoor Classroom. The outdoor classroom is a collaboration between the City of Bellingham and Recreation Northwest and serves as an educational and community gathering space. It is located at the entrance to the Hundred Acre Wood, one of Bellingham's newest parks and a short walk south of the Fairhaven Park shelter. The classroom is part of a larger learning environment including a Native Plant Garden, Recognition Rock Bench, Adventure Trail, interpretive signage, and boardwalk. Future improvements will include additional plantings and removal of invasive species and improvements to the nearby trails. Learn more about the project at Hundred Acre Wood.

The EIB (Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) Committee of the WRPA (Washington Recreation and Park Association) has been actively engaged in shaping the new Strategic Plan for the organization. Over the past five years, the Committee has diligently worked on initiatives aimed at empowering members to integrate principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging into their agencies. This effort has involved providing training sessions and equipping members with relevant resources.
Currently, the Committee's primary focus lies in offering feedback and consultation on the ongoing development of the Strategic Plan. Additionally, members are committed to supporting each other as they continue to advance EIB-related work within their respective agencies.
Meetings of the EIB Committee are scheduled for the second Friday of every month at 1 pm. WRPA members are encouraged to participate and contribute to these discussions, as the Committee welcomes input from a diverse range of perspectives.
