Session Description:

More than ever, parents and caregivers rely on parks and recreation agencies to implement thorough background checks on coaches, employees, and volunteers that meet the national standards. This session will cover recent events and statistics around criminal activity and lawsuits, and red flags that may indicate a background check that is NOT meeting national standards. It will also cover criteria for building a strong, FCRA compliant screening program for all groups and organizations utilizing your facilities.

About the Speaker(s):

Lauren Sloan
NCSI

Ms. Sloan is considered one of the nation’s leading experts in the field of volunteer background
screenings. NCSI is responsible for establishing the National Recreation and Park Background Screening
Guidelines in 2006. Lauren helps advise over 1,500 recreation departments and 26 of the National
Governing Bodies of the United States Olympic Committee. Ms. Sloan, a graduate of Kennesaw State
University, is a key member of the Sales staff at NCSI and brings a unique and energetic perspective to
the background screening profession. You may recognize Lauren from among the countless educational
sessions at state parks and recreation conferences throughout the United States.

 

Chris Goodman
NCSI

Mr. Goodman is widely considered one of the nation’s leading experts in the field of volunteer & employment background screening.  Mr. Goodman and the NCSI team is responsible for establishing the National Recreation and Park Background Screening Guidelines in 2006. Chris has advised over 3,500 recreation departments and 26 of the National Governing Bodies of the United States Olympic Committee. 

Mr. Goodman, a graduate of Georgia Tech, he has been active in youth sports as coach and played collegiately at Georgia Tech and professionally with the Kansas City Royals. You may recognize Chris from among the countless educational sessions at state parks and recreation conferences throughout the United States. For the last decade, he typically speaks at 25 states annual conferences each year.
