WRPA Professional Awards: The Levy Legislative Award

Named after WRPA’s long-time Legislative Lobbyist, Doug Levy, the Levy Legislative Award recognizes an individual or organization for their significant contributions to advancing the Association’s legislative agenda and for advocacy efforts that advance the field of parks and recreation.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of service in the field of parks and recreation
  • Member of WRPA (Agency memberships include staff at all levels)

Evaluation Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate a consistent commitment to the field of parks and recreation, and tangible ways of influencing achievement of the funding and policy goals of WRPA through legislative advocacy and action. In addition to specific actions taken over the last year to advance the legislative agenda or legislative issues that advance parks and recreation, they should demonstrate engagement and visibility for the field through one or more of the following activities:

  • A broad range of parks and recreation experiences, including engagement in sub-committees or issue-specific work groups that define or advance legislative issues.
  • Served as a speaker at conferences, webinars, network meetings or other such gatherings to promote parks and recreation and educate on legislative issues.
  • Membership or Coalition involvement in groups related to parks and recreation over a two-year period with local, state, or national organizations.
  • Contributed content for industry newsletters, blogs, and web pages that advance in the interest and values of parks and recreation.
  • Furthered the racial equity goals of WRPA and the broader parks and recreation field via legislative efforts.
  • Initiated or implemented policy for funding recommendations that promote and advance the value of the parks and recreation profession.
  • Significantly contributed to WRPA in ways that have affected the philosophy and practices of the organization
