June 2021 Spotlight ProfessionalClayton Pray – Parks Superintendent for the City of Moses LakeDescribe the scope of your position in parks and recreation. Clayton Pray was recently promoted to Parks Superintendent, City of Moses Lake Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services. He was previously working as the Park Foreman. How long have you been with your present agency? I have been in the maintenance field for 30 years. I have worked in a variety of areas including agriculture, fleet, industrial, and park maintenance. I have been focusing on park maintenance for the last ten years. Background experience and previous careers? I got started in park maintenance as a pesticide applicator. When I wasn't out spraying I learned how to work on and operate our facilities. Why are you passionate about the parks and recreation field? When it comes to outdoor recreational activities hunting, fishing, and off-roading are my favorite. One of the best parts about my job is that it is never the same. Every day has something new or different. What has been your biggest professional challenge? The craziest moment I have ever needed to deal with was a suicide in one of our parks. We have also had a few cases of drug overdoses over the years. |
