Stars, Stripes, and Softball
Our photo of the month comes from the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department, who hosted the USA 14U Girls Fastpitch State Tournament over July 6–8, 2018.
The teams played into the evening while the local fireworks show boomed in the background. What a cool experience for these girls!

NRPA Blog Highlight: Tick Tricks
How to Prevent Ticks and Still Enjoy the Outdoors Article By Rich Dolesh
They are small, they are gross, and they give us the heebie-jeebies...Yes, ticks!
If you are an outdoorsy person or if you live around tall grasses or in a wooded area, then you have most likely encountered ticks. Not only are they gross, but they can spread diseases that have long-lasting effects on the human body. Some of these include Lyme disease and Southern Tick-Associated Rash Illness (STARI). Lyme disease can produce a large rash, cause severe headaches, and cause many other side effects, while STARI can give a lifelong allergic reaction to red meat.

It's Not Too Late to Promote Paddle Safe Week
As the popularity of paddlesports grows, the Washington State Parks Boating Program is leading a statewide awareness effort to promote safe paddling while having fun. Earlier this year, Gov. Jay Inslee issued a proclamation declaring July 20 through 26 Paddle Safe Week. Partners, law enforcement, and boating safety professionals are encouraged to amplify paddle safety tips that educate people about the precautions they can take before heading out on Washington’s diverse waterways in any type of paddle craft.
This is the first statewide public safety campaign that focuses solely on paddlesports. Help to increase awareness about paddlesport safety. You can participate by posting on social media, creating a message on your website, writing a newsletter article or blog post, publishing a news release, or meeting with your local reporters/media.
Below are a few recourses for you and your agency to communicate about paddle safety.
