Shawn DeRosa
DeRosa Aquatic Consultant

Shawn P. DeRosa is one of the leading experts in aquatic risk management in the nation, having spent nearly nine years working at The Pennsylvania State University, seven years as the Director of Aquatics and Safety Officer for Intercollegiate Athletics / Associate Director of Campus Recreation, Aquatics, and Safety and then nearly two years as the Senior Associate Director of Campus Recreation for Business and Administrative Services.

Shawn offers a thorough understanding of risk management in the recreation and aquatic fields which he demonstrates at his many training sessions across the nation as well as in a variety of articles published in major trade journals. Apart from the education and training services Shawn is so well known for, Shawn has been retained as an expert witness in a variety of aquatic injury cases involving injuries at both swimming pools and natural water areas.

Jeff Fryer
River Road Park and Recreation District

Jeff is currently the Aquatic Director for the River Road Park and Recreation District and the Pool Operator for the University of Oregon, both of which are located in Eugene, Oregon. In addition, he is also serving as a member of the Starfish Aquatics Institute’s National Staff. Since beginning as a lifeguard in 1975, Jeff has garnered a variety of additional aquatic experiences. He has served as an auditor for both the Starfish Aquatics Institute and Jeff Ellis & Associates, Inc., the Director of Operations for Splash Family Waterpark, Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Aquatic Coordinator for Willamalane Park and Recreation District, Springfield, Oregon, and the Adapted Aquatics Coordinator for both the City of Eugene and Willamalane Park and Recreation District. Jeff has a BA in Recreation and Park Management and is currently pursuing his MA in Public Policy, both from the University of Oregon.

Kasia Robbins
City of Hermiston

Kasia Robbins is the aquatics manager and recreation coordinator for the City of Hermiston. Kasia is successful at developing and coordinating a variety of trainings and programs. Kasia has had an active role in the aquatics profession for over 12 years. Kasia combines her coordinating experience along with her aquatic background; to create fun and rewarding skill development programming and training for her staff. Kasia’s most recent accomplishment is developing a drowning prevention program for the City of Hermiston. Kasia has experience in speaking at state conferences and giving webinars during Covid-19. She values being an active role in her community both as a recreational professional and as a mom to four children. She strives to make her community family-friendly and a place “where life is sweet”. Kasia is looking to grow as a professional and share her extensive programming and aquatic knowledge with others.

Chezik Tsunoda

Chezik Tsunoda is a mother of four boys, a documentary filmmaker, and the founder of No More Under. Since her 3-year-old son Yori drowned in a friend’s backyard pool, Tsunoda has been driven to promote the conversation about and raise awareness around drowning prevention and water safety. 

Tsunoda is an accomplished director and producer whose work spans across movies, television, and advertising. She is currently in production on a documentary film to bring more awareness to water safety and is speaking with doctors, community leaders, and other parents who have been personally impacted by drowning.

Isabell Sakamoto
Seattle Children's

Isabell Sakamoto is the Suicide and Injury Prevention Program Manager at Seattle Children’s, where she supports water safety and drowning prevention, safe firearm storage, bike helmet safety, child passenger safety, safe medication storage and disposal, and suicide prevention efforts. Isabell has supported Seattle Children’s health and safety efforts for the past 4 years, including life jacket education and community outreach. Isabell is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®), and a graduate from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she obtained a Master of Science degree in Health Communications. She is also a graduate from Western Washington University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health with a minor in Psychology.
