Tell Your Story through Data Visualization

Thursday, April 23 | 10:35am - 11:50am

Session Description: Parks and Recreation collects massive amounts of data. Data visualization uses charts and graphs to visualize large amounts of data to see trends, outliers and patterns which is easier than pouring over spreadsheets or reports. Telling a great story is going beyond the data visualization of a report or dashboard and provide meaningful insights that will enable you to identify problems, convert those insights into action and drive better decision making within your organization.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn what Business Intelligence and Data Analytics is and why it’s important in Parks & Recreation.
  2. Participants will see examples of dashboards and other data visualization tools of how data is utilized to tell your story, like Workforce Analytics that shows your staff’s gender, ethnicity, age, etc.
  3. Participants will learn from 2 Parks and Recreation professionals on how they use dashboards in their everyday operations.

Speakers: Amy Johnson, Ralph Thomas, Jan Bretana

About the Speakers: Amy has been the Business Intelligence Analyst at Metro Parks Tacoma for the past 4 years and has been with Metro Parks Tacoma for just over 11 years.
