Safe Place: Creating a Program to Advocate for Community

Session Description: We will examine and unpack the Safe Place program: From its infancy as an idea to its implementation worldwide. Learn about how to create and implement your own program and/or adopt, Safe Place. The Safe Place program creates safe locations for individuals to visit if they feel they have been a victim of a hate crime. Calling 911 and waiting for police to respond is essential for holding suspects accountable and reducing hate crimes and harassment in our communities. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn how to create and implement a new program or initiative.
  2. Participants will learn how to implement and sustain a "new to the department" program.
  3. Participants will learn about the Safe Place program.

Speakers: Molly McCormack

About the Speakers: Ofc. McCormack has been employed with Bellevue Police for five years. She's the Administrator for BPD's Safe Place program and Chairs the departments LGBTQ Community Advisory Council. Additionally her primary role is working as a School Resource Officer.
