How to Stand Out by Implementing Diverse Programs

Session Description: Developing and sustaining great programs is a timeless skill utilized in all recreation fields. This session will teach you how to stand out professionally, take your brilliant ideas and translate them into a great program, and show your stuff in an interactive planning activity.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the benefits of having a diverse recreation resume.
  2. Learn how to build a program from the ground up and make it into a functional inclusive program.
  3. Practice building an example program in a small group challenge in order to accommodate all community members.

Speakers: Jen Spane, Kacie Dietz

About the Speakers: Jen Spane is a Recreation Supervisor for Pierce County Parks and Recreation.  She has been in the industry for 20 years working with Youth, Individuals with Special Needs, Special Events, and Summer Day Camps.  While at Pierce County Jen has mentored many Interns in Rec Management and Therapeutic Recreation.  Jenn is a regional speaker/ presenter of Cooperative Play.  She leads large and small play groups for adults, schools, and Conferences.  Jen is a proud graduate of EWU.

Kacie Dietz is a Recreational Therapist with Spokane Parks and Recreation’s Outdoor Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation departments. Originally from Montana, Kacie found herself pursuing life in the Pacific Northwest to attend Eastern Washington University for BA’s in Outdoor Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation. Post-graduation Kacie took to the clinical and public sector where she has worked with community members and various stakeholders in attempt to develop year-round recreation opportunities for special populations within the general public.
