Creating Transgender Affirming Services & Organizations
Thursday, April 23 | 1:00pm - 2:15pm
Session Description: To understand how to make Parks & Recreation services more affirming for transgender clients, it is critical to examine such services from a transgender client’s perspective. This activity will help us consider that perspective. We will look at a detailed case example followed by group discussion in order to encourage staff members to recognize and unpack their own personal bias toward Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming people.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify 3 common barriers transgender people face when trying to access Parks & Recreation services.
- Name 2 strategies that participants can personally implement in their work to help reduce or remove these barriers.
- Participants will leave with a few handouts for future reference about Transgender-Affirming services, pronouns, and more.
