WRPA 2019 Annual Conference and TradeshowPreventing Ageism: A Social and Psychological PerspectiveWednesday, April 10 | 2:45pm - 4:00pm Session Description: Globally, the world is aging and by the year 2030, the number of people expected to be over 60 years old is projected to grow by 56 percent, from 901 million to 2.4 billion (United Nations, 2015). These numbers are staggering and represent the fastest growing market segment compared to any other age category. With this growth comes the need to understand the diverse nature of an older person' health and wellness and the implications for an aging population. An integral part of this understanding which directly impacts health is ageism and that is why there is a need for a session like this one. Speaker: Donna Hutchinson, Co-Owner, Smiling Hearts Yoga & Fitness Ltd. About the Speaker: Donna is the co-owner of a Vancouver-based boutique fitness and wellness studio. With more than 27 years in the field of health and wellness, Donna is currently completing her master’s degree in counseling psychology at Simon Fraser University. Along with her passion, humor, and love of life, Donna brings her fitness/wellness background, business background, and psychological background to her sessions creating the perfect trilogy of knowledge and experience.
