Description:  The success of our aquatic facilities and staff are a direct result of the education and training that our personnel are provided.  In order for our staff to be successful and confident in their skills we must provide on-going in-service training to ensure that they are trained efficiently and are able to perform in emergency situations.  This session will cover the importance of in-service training, the types of skills that should be included and proper documentation of such.  We will also cover the importance of audits and various types of audits that you are able to provide at your facilities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn the proper procedures to follow prior to hiring lifeguarding staff.
  • Participants will learn the importance of employee manuals and procedures to implement to ensure that their staff is aware of all policies, procedures, expectations, etc.
  • Participants will review the proper procedures for documenting all training and in-service training and what the minimum requirements should be.

Speaker Bio: Juliene Hefter, Safety First Aquatics, LLC

Juliene Hefter is the founder of Safety First Aquatics, LLC and is the Executive Director/CEO for the Association of Aquatic Professionals.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Recreational Leadership from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse and holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Quality from Marian College. She has a long and illustrious career in aquatics and park and recreation administration, and has been the Manager of Recreation Services for the City of West Bend, Park and Recreation Director for the City of Horicon, Supervisor of Recreation & Aquatics Director for the Fond du Lac School District, and the Park and Recreation Director for the Village of Germantown and the Deputy Director for the Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association.
