Sit Less, Move More:  Overcome Workplace Sitting Disease
Track: Professional Development

Thursday, April 30th | 3:15 - 4:30pm
Speaker: Gail Buquicchio, Everett Public Schools
Room: 317

Description:
Our work and social lives are increasingly automated and device-driven. For many people, hours spent each day sitting at an office workstation are followed by hours in front of the home computer or TV. New research suggests that sitting for long periods may be an underestimated risk factor for cancer. A lack of physical activity can lead to obesity, hypertension, and high cholesterol, which can cause diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. We will explore creative devices, tools, resources and workstations that employers can access to inspire and encourage employees to sit less and move more during their workday and at home.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the health risks of prolonged sitting.
  • Participants will be able to list ways to move more all day long.
  • Participants will be able to list tips, devices, tools, resources, and workstations to inspire change in the workplace.
