We all hope and want everyone to be able to take full advantage of the programs we offer but are you really prepared to accommodate both youth and adults with physical and mental special needs? What is your accommodation plan? This session will talk about legal and moral responsibilities you should be taking in order to meet the accommodations needed for this population.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to educate Staff
  • Participants will be able to develop a plan that fits their specific department 
  • Participants will be able to meet legal requirements

Speaker Bio: Roxane Miles, Metro Parks Tacoma

Ms. Miles is the ADA Coordinator for Metro Parks Tacoma.  She lead the agency through a self-evaluation process in 2009 and implemented the development of an updated ADA Transition Plan in 2011, which is on its third renewal.  Ms. Miles is also a city-appointed Commissioner on the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities.

Speaker Bio: Kim Indurkar, City of Bellevue

Kim Indurkar is a Community Services Program Coordinator for the City of Bellevue. She has 35 years of experience in the field of disabilities including residential and educational settings. Her role in the city is the development and implementation of adaptive recreation programs for youth and adults as well as training city staff on disabilities and program inclusion. She is a member of the City of Bellevue’s 504 committee which is responsible for ADA compliance.

Speaker Bio: Terry Smith, City of Bellevue

Terry Smith is an Assistant Director with Bellevue Parks & Community Services. Terry has worked at the management and policy levels to ensure support and compliance for accommodations and access for individuals with disabilities. He has provided training on disability awareness both with-in the City of Bellevue and the community. Terry also served as  chair of the WRPA Cultural Competence Committee.

Speaker Bio: Jeff Myers, LLDKB Law

Jeff Myers obtained his law degree from the University of Washington in 1986.  He was an Assistant Attorney General with the Ecology Division until 1991. After working in private practice in Seattle for several years, he became a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in 1995, advising on land use and growth management issues. Jeff is now a partner at Law, Lyman, Daniel, Kamerrer & Bogdanovich, where he has worked since 1998.  Jeff represents governmental clients in public disclosure issues, including matters arising under the Public Records Act and Open Public Meetings Act. His practice also focuses on land use, real property and general governmental matters.
