Planning Events: From Start to Finish

Session Description:

From festivals to concerts, tournaments to tree lightings, events are BIG business these days! Planning special events for the first time can be overwhelming with 1,000 details to think about and the pressure of high expectations. This presentation will go over the nuts and bolts of organizing an event from start to finish as well as providing basic templates for successful event planning. Great for students, young professionals, and those new to planning events.

  • Determine if a proposed event is a good fit for an organization/community.
  • Identify all the details of a special event.
  • Learn to use an event planning template for successful event production.

About the Speakers:

Kim was born and raised on the East Coast and fell in love with festivals and events growing up outside of Washington D.C. and while attending Emerson College in Boston, MA. Kim made the exciting journey to the Northwest to attend graduate school and study arts administration at the University of Oregon. She got her start in recreation and parks interning for Albany. Kim has worked on events everywhere from Baltimore, MD, to Cambridge, MA, and from Williamsburg, VA, to Eugene, OR. In May 2012, Kim joined the Willamalane Park and Recreation team as their volunteer/special event coordinator and now serves as their program manager for special events and outdoor recreation.
