Diverse Voices, Diverse Needs: An Interactive Way to Engage and Strengthen a Community

Thursday, April 11 | 1:00pm - 2:15pm

Session Description:

Communities have diverse voices with different needs, but what if organizations only hear from the “usual suspects?” In this session, participants will gain innovative and practical techniques to identify community needs and establish and strengthen long-term relationships with their diverse citizenry. Participate in a community engagement exercise to uncover bias, learn how to encourage patrons to see through a different lens, and discover needs that may not be obvious.

  • Understand engagement strategies and how they can establish public and private relationships and identify community needs.
  • Discuss tools and techniques to engage communities and reach unheard voices.
  • Create an engagement strategy by participating in a demonstration to meet the needs of the community being served.

Speakers:

Liana Harden, Engagement and Partnership Specialist, Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District
