WRPA 2019 Annual Conference and TradeshowA-Z Athletic ProgrammingThursday, April 11 | 10:35am - 11:50am Session Description: While playing sports is fun, organizing recreational sports takes time and effort. This session is ideal for new and upcoming professionals. Walk through all aspects of athletic programming: timelines, structuring teams, recruiting and training volunteer coaches, equipment inventory and purchasing, field/gym scheduling, safety, and more. Speakers: Kelly Ashe, Recreation Director, City of Cheney About the Speakers: From working in recreation and parks for more than 11 years, Kelly brings varied experience in virtually every sector in the recreation field. Kelly has a master's degree in recreation administration from Indiana University and has had the privilege of living and working in four different states since obtaining her degrees (and enjoys Washington State the most). Kevin is recreation supervisor with Mountlake Terrace Recreation in Washington State and has been in the industry for more than 10 years. He serves on his state association board of directors and is active in the NRPA Young Professional Network. Kevin has spoken at state conferences and local trainings. Kevin helped create many innovative and community-based programs in the departments he has worked for. Kevin is always thinking outside the box and for ways to continue to push the parks and recreation industry forward. C.J. began his career with the City of Issaquah after graduating from Eastern Washington University in 2007. During a decade with the city he was involved in almost every aspect of the department. Currently, C.J. is a recreation supervisor with the City of Mercer Island and oversees all youth, adult, and senior programming. C.J. earned a bachelor's degree in recreation management and a master’s degree from Gonzaga University.
