Recreation: The Ever Increasing Risk of Special Events

Participants will be challenged to evaluate each and every special event for its individual risks to determine what risk mitigation and risk transfer techniques to employ. Large events and public gatherings pose unique challenges. Explore what risk management advice the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency recommends.

Tanya Crites, WCIA

Tanya Crites has been a Risk Management Representative with Washington Cities Insurance Authority since 2008. Prior to joining WCIA, Tanya was a Senior Claims Adjuster with the City of Seattle for 19 years (1989 – 2008). At the City of Seattle, Tanya handled a variety of complex claims, including claims involving parks, facilities and special events. After so many years reacting to what goes wrong in municipal operations, Tanya is enjoying helping WCIA Member cities by providing pro-active risk management advice.
