We have seen across all industries and markets a desire for more shaded areas for park users to get a break from the Sun and other elements that we might not normally experience. Course Description: Course Credits: American Institute of Architects (1 LA CES Credit) USA SHADE & Fabric Structures now offers a LA CES approved continuing education course, Meaningful Placemaking for Outdoor Spaces: Best Practices for Design and Specification of Fabric Shade Structures. The continuing education course provides Architects and Landscape Architects with 1 PDH (professional development hour) upon successful completion. Today more than ever, outdoor space in commercial applications has high value. In a world that is reimagining how we meet, eat, gather, and do business, placemaking in existing areas outside has opened the conversation about how that can happen with shade structures. Without protection overhead, outdoor space is often not used. This course discusses the value of shade structures and the variety of applications for this exciting form of architecture. The factors that makeup shade structures are discussed, including framing, fabric, connections, and foundations. The process of bringing a fabric structure from idea to implementation is thoroughly discussed, and case studies are inserted throughout to show these innovative structures in action, never to early to plan for that next project.
