No Child Left Inside Grant Program
The No Child Left Inside Grant Program has officially opened for new applications.
Do you work with kids? Would you like to help children be healthier, happier, and more successful—both in school and in life? Do you want to expose them to the all the beauty in Washington’s great outdoors? Then consider applying for a No Child Left Inside grant.
This fairly new state grant program is aimed at offering kids a chance to experience nature through education or recreation programs. The program targets students at risk of failing or dropping out of school, under-represented learners, and kids facing social, behavior, economic, and health barriers.
Grant recipients may ask for as much as $75,000 for each program. WA State expects to award about $1.5 million in grants. Of that, $500,000 will be awarded to organizations with at least one veteran on staff who will implement the grant.
Applications close January 17, 2018.

Senate Bill 5999 By Senator Honeyford
A bill was filed by the Senate’s Ranking Member for the Capital Budget, Senator Jim Honeyford (R-Sunnyside/15th Dist.) on December 5, 2017.
This bill seems to prohibit the use of state bonds for any state agency employee compensation. While Senator Honeyford makes an important philosophical point about the need for bonds to focus on long-term capital investment, the fact of the matter is that the bill could have very negative implications for WRCO's administration of the WWRC.
